Brockenhurst to Ashurst, New Forest

May 2019 I took the plunge and returned to the New Forest via the train to Brockenhurst where Min and I met and began a walk from Brockenhurst to Ashurst. I’d never done a walk like this while carrying the tent and all the bits needed, I’d also never done the navigation side of a walk so it was a milestone for me where Min taught me how to read a map and use the compass correctly. Even though we were in the New Forest where tech works, it was good to learn how to do things should the satelites fall from the sky!

We pitched up in Ashurst which was a really lovely campsite and we could pitch our tent in a relatively concealed space, it gave us that bit of seclusion that you don’t normally get.

After a night in Ashurst we retraced our steps back to Brockenhurst and caught the train back. On a whole it was a fantastic two day experience to practice hiking with my kit and to learn how to navigate.
