Adelaide, Australia

In 2007 I took a break from ‘life’ and visited Australia for 2 months with my sister, a friend of hers that lived out there, and with my old best friend from school. For such a big trip it was so disorganised but one of the greatest adventures I’ve had!

My sister and I arrived at Adelaide Airport then went to Henley Beach where her friend (I can’t remember his name) was working at a hotel, we checked in here for a few nights then spent the next few days visiting agents in the area in search of a villa for the next two months. It was so manic as we didn’t find anywhere to stay until the last day! However what we found was amazing.

We ended up booking a bungalow with a hot tub, four bedrooms, right on the beach (here it is on Google Maps) just down the road from Glenelg, it was a fantastic location and acted as our base for one of the months. Ross arrived soon after we had the place and made himself comfy.

From here we arranged multiple trips and did our own thing; I took a short trip up to Brisbane to visit an online friend and some of my childhood (I spent a bulk of my childhood on the Gold Coast), a few days on Kangaroo Island, some wine tasting in Barossa Valley, and a lot of time in Adelaide. Ross and Michelle ended up doing a tour down to Melbourne.

However Ross was only over for a month and when he went back to England my sister joined him, and I couldn’t afford to keep the bungalow all to myself, so I ended up finding a small apartment in Glenelg (Google Map view) which was very different from the old place. However I’d made friends in the first month and spent a lot of my time at their houses, so all I needed was a place to crash.

In the last month out there I ‘lived’ rather than holiday’d. The friends I’d made were exotic dancers (I’d joined a club out there) and they were very big on keeping their body in shape, so I spent a lot of that last month going to a gym with two of them, they also enjoyed partying so I frequented a lot of house parties. I even went clubbing which is something I don’t do. Adelaide was my first experience in a gay club, which is something that really stuck with me in such a good way. It was such an experience! I also came face to face with a huntsman spider that freaked me out!

Unfortunately so many of my photos have been lost over the years, and it was a time before having a decent camera on your phone.
